Road Tripper Part 3

The launch of our Road Trip took place in California. Such an awesome state I must say! One of the main things that sparks my interest in the US is de diversity on nature, people and culture. California already fulfilled a great part of this.

Starting of with a San Francisco city trip our introduction to California couldn’t be better! What an awesome city! I think so far, San Francisco definitely is in my top 3 cities of the US.
Anyway, the atmosphere, the people, the architecture, the parks, the cultural sites, the harbor. It’s all very impressive to me. Exploring the city for 5 days, I’ve seen almost everything it has to offer. My highlights were The Pier, The Golden Gate Bridge, walking around the Presidio area, visiting Alcatraz, Lombard street, Alamo square and the Painted Ladies.

The Road Trip started when we headed south towards Los Angeles following Highway 1, the All-American highway. This scenic route was on our bucket list. reportedly one of the most beautiful routes around the world and crossing Bixby Bridge.

Our goal for the day was to find a motel. We found one in Ventura, California. Somewhat crappy, our first motel, but it was late and we had an exciting day planned for the next day. So we really needed sleep. When we cleared our room the next morning, we found that the previous visitor left his dirty white undies under the bed. Luckily we found it in the morning, otherwise we might not have slept quite as good as we did now haha.

One other thing that I just love is to visit amusement parks. And that is just wat we were gonna do next. Six Flags Magic Mountain let’s go! 14 roller coasters! I cannot handle all the excitement.

Los Angeles, The City of Angels. Personally this city didn’t feel like magic to me. Maybe it couldn’t live up to the expectations created through movies and television, and of course the fact that all those celebrities live there. But it just wasn’t for me. We visited Venice, Hollywood, The walk of fame, drove through Beverly Hills for a little, Rodeo Drive and the Griffith Observatory to take a peek at the Hollywood sign.

Los Angeles was the end of our California adventure. We definitely need to go back and see what more this beautiful state has to offer. Next up is Las Vegas, Nevada!

Road Tripper Part 2

I think when someone or something special comes into your life unexpectedly, you definitely should grab it and hold on tightly. Take advantage of the situation and use it to create an adventure!

On of mine is when my best friend left for the US to go and work there for a whole year. I know this doesn’t sound as something positive, it was the opposite actually. Having to miss my best friend for a year, our talks, gossips, trips, movie nights, clubbing, drinking and most of all having fun and laughter. However, her contract stated that she had a 12 month working visa and a 1 month traveling visa.

When she told me, our brains instantly started planning a trip. She didn’t even have to ask me or tell me, it was obvious that that would be OUR 1 month trip. This is how we work, most of the time words aren’t even necessary to communicate.

Oke, so, the trip planning for the larger part took place via Skype. Another unusual thing I would say. Having such a large distance between us and discussing important decisions about our trip, but I think it made me even more excited about it.

What we decided was to book plane tickets, rent a car and meet up in San Francisco. That’s all. We knew the dates of the start and end of our trip. Knew the day we would start driving and when we had to hand in the car. The rest was totally blank.

The adventure could begin!

Road tripper

For a while now I wanted to write about the amazing trip I made this year. It’s a fact that I’m obsessed with traveling and seeing the world. Another fact is that ever since I can remember I wanted to go to the USA. It’s always been some sort of dreamland for me. Not in the well known kind of way, the ‘everything is possible’ kind of way, the ‘make your dreams come true’ kind of way.
For me, the USA is a place I know from the movies and series I love, it’s where Disney comes from. It’s a country the size of a continent, even bigger than Europe where i’ve already traveled and seen a lot. It’s a country with such a diversity on nature, culture and people. Also a country with a wide variety on culinary habits, recipes and local specialties.

It’s just always been one of my biggest dreams to visit the states. The places i’ve dreamed of the most were New York City, California and Florida. You may say those are some sort of clichés, but those are the places you often see passing by in magazines, holiday pictures of other people and on tv.
When my 21st birthday came up a couple of years ago, my dream already came true for a small part. As a birthday present I got to visit New York City with my father. It was an amazing 6 day trip. Way too short obviously, but unforgettable!

The dream wasn’t nearly fulfilled since i’d just seen that one city. But then I met one of my best friends the year after that. She was also really obsessed with traveling and it seemed we were a perfect match. That year we visited Paris. The year after that we traveled to Cuba and Milan. And this year we traveled to the USA! Finally the time came where I would visit this amazing country. And not just some holiday, no. We would road trip for a whole month. Driving from San Francisco to Miami. How awesome!

I won’t spill all the details yet. I will use this blog to write about the things we’ve seen along the road. The experiences we’ve had, the food we tried. And of course the awesome things we did.
